Zum ersten Mal und in erweiterter Form zeigen wir die erleb- und begehbare Erzählung Turnton2047 von der kleinen, am Meer gelegenen Stadt in einer gar nicht mehr so fernen Zukunft auf einem Schiff. Auf der MS Dresden, die das Schifffahrtsmuseum Rostock beherbergt, wird sie ab Herbst 2025 als einjährige Sonderausstellung zu besuchen sein. Bereits seit Herbst 2024 arbeiten wir dran, mit hervorragender und äußerst wertvoller Unterstützung seitens mehrerer Forschungseinrichtungen (u. a. dem Leibniz-Institut für Ostseeforschung Warnemünde (IOW), dem Helmholtz-Zentrum für Ozeanforschung Kiel (Geomar) oder dem Johann Heinrich von Thünen-Institut.

Im Zentrum dieser erfahrbaren Zukunft stehen einerseits eine transformierte Wirtschaft, die das Wohlergehen der Menschen und des Planeten in den Vordergrund rückt und damit aktuell vorherrschende Macht- und Vermögenskonzentrationen konterkariert und andererseits die Potentiale mariner Regeneration, die geeignet sind, beschädigte Meeres-Ökosysteme wiederherzustellen.

Erlebbar gemacht wird diese Stadt in der Zukunft in Form der Medusa Bar, einer Hafenkneipe, oder vielmehr einem sozialen Zentrum Turntons, mit all ihren Geschichten. Mittels Artefakte und Hörstationen wird Einblick in den Alltag dieser Stadt gewährt und dabei ganz aktuell über das Eintreffen des verschollenen geglaubten Forschungsschiffs Hydropia im Hafen von Turnton erzählt.
 

Dabei ist es wichtig, keineswegs einen Anspruch auf Vollständigkeit zu erheben. Der Mut zur Lücke ist ein wesentliches Credo bei der Erschaffung möglicher Zukünfte. Es gilt bereits bestehende Ideen und Konzepte aufzugreifen und mit einer gehörigen Portion an Fiktionalisierung anzureichern, immer mit der Intention ein positives Weltbild hochzuhalten. Turnton erlaubt sich, den sich breitmachenden Ängsten zu widerstehen und Anstöße für eine mögliche Welt zu bieten, in der wir leben wollen.

For the first time and in an expanded form, we will be showing Turnton2047, the tale of a small seaside town in a not-so-distant future on a ship. It will be on display as a one-year special exhibition on the MS Dresden, which houses the Rostock Maritime Museum, from autumn 2025. We have been working on this since autumn 2024, with excellent and extremely valuable support from several research institutions (including the Leibniz-Institut für Ostseeforschung Warnemünde (IOW), the Helmholtz-Zentrum für Ozeanforschung Kiel (Geomar) and the Johann Heinrich von Thünen-Institut.

At the centre of this experiential future are, on the one hand, a transformed economy that prioritises the well-being of people and the planet and thus counteracts the currently prevailing concentrations of power and wealth and, on the other hand, the potential of marine regeneration that is suitable for restoring damaged marine ecosystems.

This city in the future is brought to life in the form of the Medusa Bar, a harbour pub, or rather a social centre of Turnton, with all its stories. Artefacts and audio stations provide an insight into the everyday life of this city and tell the story of the arrival of the Hydropia, a research vessel believed to be lost, in Turnton harbour.

It is important not to make any claim to completeness. The courage to leave gaps is an essential credo in the creation of possible futures. The aim is to take up existing ideas and concepts and enrich them with a good dose of fictionalisation, always with the intention of upholding a positive world view. Turnton takes the liberty of resisting the spreading fears and offering impulses for a possible world in which we want to live.
