There is a theory that the first stage of evolution on this planet consisted of various crystalline forms of clays. The most effective crystalline form succeeded in terms of capturing the most amount of clay in its structure. When the streams dried the crystals blew off as dust and spread their crystalline "genotype" around. Dust to Dust?
With a SciFi base the dust particles that coat your skin could be many things. We take a Brownian motion simulator, the possibility that the near infinite information content of an apparently purely random source of motion, the staggering walk of the stock market, the random (or not so random) spread of virii, digital and otherwise.
The second Dust event will take place 29 May 2001. It is a part of the Transient series of events, involving sound loops over the net with spatialised presentations at certain central locations. Involved people include
Technology tests will include the pure digital manipulation, input via mp3 to PD (Pure Data) and direct encoding to mp3 again. Closer to the date we will post some points for interested listeners.
We use midi over IP to distribute this data stream, an experiment in locking together a collection of performances over a spread area, and use a Real Audio loop to share the resulting audio streams.
